Classic Symptoms Of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

As the name implies, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is characterized by profound fatigue that doesn't seem to be alleviated by sleeping. Everyone feels very tired sometimes, but a good night's sleep will usually put it right. CFS patients, on the other hand, have already been fatigued for at least 6 months before they can be diagnosed as having the syndrome. There are also a number of other symptoms which they must be exhibiting before a doctor will conclude that CFS is the culprit. CFS is a serious medical condition that can severely change a person's life and even render him or her helpless to live a normal life.

People who suffer from CFS will notice that physical or mental activity will make the condition worse. Sadly, even thought they were competent, active individuals prior to their illness, they can no longer operate at the same level. They will be weak, unable to concentrate well, have muscle pain, sustain   memory loss, and experience insomnia even though they are fatigued to the point of collapse. Although no one knows for sure what brings on the onset of CFS, there are patients who have suffered from it for years.

Patients with CFS will experience instances of the following conditions as much as 20-50% of the time. These symptoms include chest and abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, jaw pain, bloating, dizziness, intolerance of alcohol, earaches, psychological issues, irregular heartbeat, dry eyes and mouth, night sweats, shortness of breath, tingling sensations and tingling, and unexplained weight loss. People of every age, ethnicity, socioeconomic strata, and gender can succumb to the disease, although it affects at least four times as many women as it does men, and adults are more susceptible than children.

How Concerned should you be if you Exhibit these Symptoms?

CFS is nothing to be messed around with. If you think there's a possibility you're suffering from the disorder, seek medical treatment immediately. Chances are that your symptoms will be found to be caused by some other fatiguing condition, but if they do happen to point to CFS, you need to be aware that it's every bit as debilitating as congestive heart failure, multiple sclerosis, lupus, or rheumatoid arthritis. At this time there is no known cure, but there are steps that can be taken to lessen the effects of the disease and help you live a more normal life.
